keyboard selection lost after reboot

I have skp checked as the selected keyboard. Each reboot causes this selection to be lost and as a result the stock android kb is reestablished. So I have to re-check skp after each reboot (or powerup). I didn't have this problem back with the froyo setup.
Android - 2.3.3 (gingerbread)
Phone - HTC Desire
