could you make the default smileys like ':)' and ':(' aka without the hyphen for the nose?

What I should do is a system so that people could vote for features

yeah it's not even that big of a priority but that's the only thing i can think of (personally) that would make this app better than it already is. maybe include an option of what smileys are available? haha idk, i don't really have a firm grasp on how the coding for that would go.
thanks as always for your work, though, cyril

I'm sure this is completely obvious, but I don't seem to see smileys on my keyboard? Help?
Great keyboard, by the way. Thank you, and thanks for the frequent updates, too. It's nice to see a responsive developer!

I think the smiley key only appears when texting (using the stock app). However I would like to have the smiley key when writing mails too. I wonder if it's possible, it doesn't have to be in the main view of the keyboard, but somewhere else.
Another thing is that I don't like that when manually typing the smiley, when I type ':' it automatically autocorrects and sticks to the word before it, it would be great to have an option to disable this.
Keep the great work!

Its one of the things that has been driving me nuts on the stock keyboard and would be awesome if we could disable it Just for the ":" symbol. Having said that there are probably far more important updates to work on first but if its an easy "fix" it would be nice to have.

Some way for us to edit smilies would be awesome! Personally i preffer
:) and :(, but also i know some people like it the way it is now, so that edit thingy would be great! I still don't see the smileys on Smart Keyboard (I've checked in the stock messaging app, too). Using an HTC Hero, Android 1.5. Any suggestions?
I actually wouldn't mind an option to take out the smiley b
utton all together, obviously it would be optional.

I tottally agree with the person who posted this. I personally use the colen, closed bracket and the colen open bracket for my emoticon smiles and frowns. I would love if you could change the smileys to however you want. I am not a fan of the dash noses on them haha. Great apple!

A option to remove this button all together and replace it with one big button for "." would be great. Or what if the dev made it so we could define what is contained within that button by providing a comma-delimited list in a text field in the settings? The first item in that user defined list could be whatever is shown on the button, with subsequent items shown in the tap-and-hold submenu.bears4154 wrote:I actually wouldn't mind an option to take out the smiley button all together, obviously it would be optional. This, most definitely. Hi
the smiley editor is in my TODO list, but you will understand that it may not be the priority
However it will come, one day..

+1 for enabling using smiles in other apps .found that they waist in your keyboard only after reading forums as I do not use native messaging app.please enable it for all other programs as well.
yes but which apps ? or how to enable them ? with a swipe ?
Just wanted to thank you for your prompt replies to my posts! You're a great developer.
Hi, I still don't see the smileys on my keyboard. Any suggestions?
Smiley-button would be great!
I would love to see a custom smiley option. Especially so I can change it to ":)" and not ":-)"
It will come, it will come... just trying to sort the priorities
I like the idea of an editable smileys popup. If you haven't seen jonasl's mod of HTC_IME he's implemented this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
I prefer the way Smart Keyboard presents the smileys in a large popup instead of a line, but I thought I'd link there if you haven't played with it yet.
Also, an idea for a further tweak: Instead of having the smiley button on the keyboard, can you have an option to just show it on the "?123" alternative keyboard? It would make inserting smileys one keystroke harder, but that's a plus for me as I seem to insert smileys accidentally more than I do intentionally. Yay or Nay from other users?

Guys I will add two options:
- A global setting "on / off / auto" to display or not the smiley key, also accessible with a swipe gesture
- An editor to customize the smiley panel

Ah, I'm still waiting on that update to change the default smiley to ":)". I want it sooo bad.
Done in 2.0.0!
I love this new smiley feature! I've been waiting for someone to implement something like this so I could add the smileys that I use most often. However, I am afraid to update to 2.1.1 because of the change log entry "Revert to default android smileys". Could someone explain what exactly this update does? Does it take away my custom smileys?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I was a little scared as well, but it didn't take them away for me. Still don't know what it actually did...
I only reverted to the default smileys for the people who didn't customize the key, but if you already cutomized it there is no change at all
Ah wonderful. Thanks for clearing that up
