The period and comma keys don't have anything "above" them that come up when you do a long press on them. Those two empty spaces would be an ideal place to allow a configurable mapping for one or two of the characters on the Alt page (specifically, I use the backslash a lot). For that matter, being able to map what goes onto each key and its long press would be even cooler, and I wouldn't even object to having to edit a plain text file with it on the SD card somewhere.
